The speculation about The Game Awards reached a fever pitch, notably after host Geoff Keighley posted an enigmatic image of a desert monolith. The question has been revealed. The acclaimed developer is working on a completely new Divinity game.
Announced as Divinity, the game was presented with a bold trailer that included memorable imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the literal unleashing of hell.
Not the Expected Sequel
Anyone anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. Larian clarified that a follow-up to its venerated RPGs is not currently in development.
That said, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a continuation of the core franchise. This phrasing implies that the team could be designing a real-time experience rather than another turn-based title. For now, it remains theory, as only a announcement clip is available.
What Makes Divinity Special
The Divinity series is universally respected and arguably it sparked the recent resurgence of complex computer role-playing games. These games are known for rich lore, branching plots, and complex character building—traits that recently found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its world is familiar fare, what makes Divinity apart is the remarkable agency granted to the player.
In contrast to modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is brimming with unique possibilities that are viable if you're playing as a distinct build with a specific history of choices.
The series is also famously open-ended, letting players to improvise throughout the entire experience. Most missions can be solved in multiple ways, often in surprising fashion.
- You might find an answer because you heeded something an animal companion shared.
- Or, you could overcome an obstacle by using the world itself in a inventive way.
The Journey Continues
It is these creative systems that lead fans and critics to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games in history. Now, fans can anticipate a new entry in this groundbreaking franchise.
